These carved wooden statues are hand fashioned in Bali. Thousands of years ago, the statues were used as tombstones. More recently, they are used in funeral proceedings in Balinesian tribal villages. The statue is believed to hold the spirit of the deceased and to bring good luck. Also thought to bring protection and guidance, villagers place them outside of their homes
